If not for that, I would have called a tow truck, taken it to a mechanic, etc. So his help saved me a bunch of money.
So I offered them six free hours of Saturday night babysitting. Which they happily accepted.

Let me get this straight?! You tore up your personal vehicle transporting their kids in bad weather in their neighborhood and the dad fixed it for you (which he should have anyway or paid the deductible) and you offered to sit for them for free for 6 hours and they GREEDILY accepted? Disgusting

I charge them for driving their kids around, and always have. I charge my normal sitter rate, plus 40 cents a mile. And yes, I am aware that 40 cents a mile is under the government rate of 54 cents a mile. You can tell me I am disgusting again if you want to, but I am happy with the arrangement.

You're pretty daft if you thought you were the one I was calling disgusting. And not only that but .40 per mile is way below the irs rate, not to mention that is for NORMAL wear and tear on your vehicle and gas reimbursement not for a serious issue like you described above. I get paid .575 per mile but my families have always let me know that if something happened while with the kids that they'd pay for it. .40 per mile isn't doing much of anything.

I disagree with the other respondent. I don't think he had an obligation to fix your car, and doing so was very nice of him. I also think you had no obligation to do anything for his favor, but it was kind of you to do so. It sounds like you have a great relationship with thoughtful people on both sides.

This is ridiculous why we have to find weekend doctor, so what is the meaning of sick day leave...seriously people have to grow up.if you have enough sick day leave and given enough notice to your boss about your appointment date then it's ok.

Stop being doormat.

And how do you think the rest of the world does it? MOST people use sick days to cover dr appointments. Why is nannying so different?[/quote

Exactly this is my point. Why the hell do nanny have to face problem while going for their appointment and some people are suggesting for weekend appointments are you serious? Sick leave are given so that you can use when you are sick aND days to cover dr appointment. Given enough notice to your boss and you are fine.

Do you get sick days on top of your PTO?

I wouldn't offer to babysit for "free," not unless you have specifically worked it out so that the hours you took off are being paid as the babysitting hours. It's much better for everyone to stick to a clear accounting of hours worked and hours paid. If you want to make the offer, you could say "in place of the 4 hours I took off last Friday that you paid me for, I will babysit for you for four hours next Friday." Or acknowledge that those days off will be counted against your PTO.

I also wouldn't just assume that they are not stressed by all the appointments you have had. I think the best thing you can do is tell them that you will try to make appointments on the weekends in the future to minimize disruptions.
