Dumb parents keep hiring and firing. Unstable care during the foundation years often has detrimental results. That's why one of the parents will often do the full-time care for the first year or two.

I do agree you get what you pay for if we are talking extremes say $5, or $35/hr per child in NW DC. Extremely low paid nannies $5 / hr cannot perform well (for many reasons), and extremely well paid nannies are what they are - nannies of the riches who must be excellent as they've been through tons of hiring filters.

Everything in between has nothing to do with the level of pay. We have seen excellent nannies charging $14/child, and terrible nannies charging $27 per child. The latter are usually those with tons of "free" time and opinions on statements like in this post.
