Or you could do your job. Before you go to the bathroom, put the kids in a crib or an enclosed playpen.

I didn't childproof my house. I actively parented.

Actively parenting would mean recognizing that you can't watch your child's every move 24/7 and never make a mistake. It means realizing that each time you do make a mistake could mean your kids life. It means actively getting on your ass and doing what you can to make your home safe. Maybe that means locks on the cabinets and fancy kid proofing gadgets, or maybe it simply means moving your valuable out of reach, moving chemicals from your bottom shelf, and picking up after yourself so there aren't choking hazards lying about. Not childproofing doesn't make you a better parent. It makes you careless, in addition to smug.

Well said. Sad how an absent parent doesn't have a clue about pulling off a share set-up. She should try it for a day, and decide how much she's willing to risk in order to maintain her attitude.
