It is always better to pay a bit more to insure that you are getting a quality person to drive your child. They will be more likely to stay. You also should pay them the standard federal rate for mileage.

Many people would gladly take $12/hr to drive a car and be very reliable and safe. If you lived in the real world you would see.

I do live in the real world. It doesn't matter what rude phrases you throw around-it is very, very difficult to find a reliable person for $12/hour.
That is the truth.

Based on experience, I say this. There are reliable people out there, and there are non-reliable people out there. $12 pay does not equate unreliable or irresponsible. You can definitely find people for $12 for what you need. I would try to wait until you find someone like that. There will definitely people who demand more, because they need to pay for their living expenses... and equate your job with nannying which should come with a lot more duties and responsibilities.

The people with the bad attitude on this board demanding $20 as "fair pay" are just as unlikely to show up as a reliable person you can get for $12. I would look at where they will be coming from as one of the factors in selecting someone. Someone who lives across the street will have a much easier time getting to the destination and is just as important as the pay amount.

Where on this thread is anyone demanding $20/hour?
I would love to see the proof you have showing me that those who are paid $12/hour would be as reliable as someone making $20/hour.
I do agree that proximity is an important factor.

I wouldn't be willing to work 10 (broken up) hours per week for $48.

Exactly. It will be very difficult to find someone willing to work only from 7:30-8:30 am and 3- 4pm for drop off and pickup. If you find that person, they are likely to leave as soon as they find a job offering more hours. Your best bet is another parent at the school who lives nearby.

Or to pay someone a higher rate. $12/hour will not cut it.

Let's cut the cap here, I have seen people who offer low pay have to find a nanny every other week or month and this is the truth. You can cry about this fact.
