3 year old children do lie and their lies have consequences. I once nannied for a 4 yr old who sent her grandmother to jail because she told her pre school teacher what horrible abusive things this grandma did to her. The grandma was a public school teacher and she lost her job. Truly awful. And I know this child lied because she tried lying about me abusing her. I quit after that. Thankfully no charges were filed against me but the child scared the shit out of me. If I ever did something she didn't like she would just start screaming stop hitting me stop hurting me nanny why do you hit me. Truly awful. I never hit her in anyway and sometimes she would scream this when I was in a separate room from her.

Wow, the ignorance in this thread about child development is astounding.

Yea that's not "lying", that's like some serious mental instability and psychotic issues, probably from actual abuse.

So when my three year old charge makes up a story about bunnies painted pink and eating giant marshmallows with mama, that's lying. Hmm.

Yes. Would you call it the truth

So the preschool teacher never hears little ones make imaginary stories? Which is what it is, btw. It's a huge part of development. Weaving stories together using real and imagined imagery is y favorite thing 2-4 year olds do

A child saying something they know isn't true is not exactly lying. They're learning to use their imagination and learning what is imagining or dreaming (BIG one, kids can easily think a dream was real) is part of the process.

+1 a child detailing abuse to a degree that someone is put in jail is being abused by someone.
