Please stop using that ridiculous term. No other previously-accepted-gender-specific occupation does this. Male nurses are not Murses and male teachers are not Meachers. Further, female welders are not Felders and female surgeons are not Furgeons.

"Manny" is an insulting and derogatory term that seeks to embarrass males who go into the profession on in-home childcare.

To my knowledge only one very attention-seeking poster uses the term on this board. I agree it is derogatory and hate it too but we all choose to ignore her as she only posts about him for attention.

I doubt it's about attention at this point, as much as spite. Someone feels the need to comment on every post she makes regarding her use of the word "manny". I'd keep using it too just to annoy the whiny, know-it-all nannies with their panties in a bunch.

You are ridiculous and childish, PP. So let me put this is words you understand: Grown-up's don't use terms that hurt people's feelings or make people feel bad about themselves. It is silly to think that irritating people is a way to one-up them. When you're a big girl and achieve something on your own, you'll understand.

Oh, honey. The PP that comments on her "manny" uses the term because her manny calls himself that! It obviously does not hurt his feelings or make him feel bad about himself.
And how in the world is it derogatory? Do you even know what that word means? Let me help.

Derogatory: expressing a low opinion of someone or something : showing a lack of respect for someone or something.
Synonyms: belittling, contemptuous, decrying, degrading, demeaning, denigrative, denigratory, deprecatory, depreciative, depreciatory, derisory, derogative, detractive, disdainful, disparaging, pejorative, scornful, slighting, uncomplimentary

Calling someone a wet nurse isn't derogatory either. Neither is Asian. You're confusing that with Oriental.

+1,000,000 but wait there is a poster here who will comment on her male friend that is a nurse and he calls himself a murse ?

That would be me. I have more than one friend who does this, and I'm not the only one.

My question for the first PP is: why do you care? What is it about that term that makes you spazz out to the point that you have to reply every.single.time? The only reason I pause at the term "manny" is because I know the psychotic poster (you, dear) will shortly be posting your rant. Why are you so threatened by the term?

I am the PP who wrote about manny being a derogatory term and this is the first time I have ever seen it on this board and the first time I have ever commented on it.

I would post the same correction to any who ever used the terms: Asian, Retarded, Fag, Wetnurse, etc. It has to do with my morals. And no, I will never allow anyone to get away with a derogatory term without commenting against it.

Learn from it or learn to live with as I will make a correction every time I see it.

Show me ONE instance where a person has been the victim of a hate crime as a result of being called a "manny". Until then, don't you DARE compare that word to one as hateful and dehumanizing as the term fag. You are way off base and incredibly insulting.

It's attention-whoring to use the term manny. We all know the posters who use that term want to call attention to the fact that they have a MALE (gasp!!! shock!!!) nanny.

Yes, manny posters, you are Very, Very Special and Very, Very Very Enlightened. We are Very Impressed with you. Ooooh, a male nanny.
