I get 25. for one child.
If your sitter is any good, she'll find something better soon enough. Even if she's illegal and paid in cash.

nannydebsays wrote:$600/week, 42.5 hours, so...

600/43.75 = $13.72/hour.

Just wow.

I'd certainly be ashamed if I was one of those cheap parents.

For all you know OP could be giving generous benefits as part of package. You should be ashamed of yourself for jumping to conclusions.

They'd have to be extraordinarily generous to make up for the pay.

And, exactly how much do you pay your nanny while you are at work?

I wonder if the pay is legal. Isn't each family a separate employer and obligated to pay minimum wage to the nanny?

No overtime.

No I think she hired illegal nanny.

Not OP, but how is $14 an hour plus overtime underpaying? It's not.

Their nanny makes $600 a week for full days from 7:30-4, and in contrast I make almost the same (in the $500 range) for a single family part-time after school for like 3 hours a day. So yes this nanny is far far underpaid.

Actually they are paying less than $14/hour when you include the small amount of overtime. $13-$14/hour may get you a very average nanny for one child, a warm body/desperate nanny for 2 kids, and I just can't fathom who would be stupid enough to accept that rate for an infant share, when there are so many paying $18. When have you ever heard $13/hour quoted as an acceptable rate for a share in this area? Never. But as a PP said, it is the nanny who is a fool. OP got a good deal, and its not like the nanny is making less than minimum wage.

Most of these sitters and parents are not paying taxes.

Yikes!! I bet the OP is wishing she hadn't posted in the wrong forum. She is probably trying to hide right now.

Unless she lives in some small little hokey town, that is a very low rate for two babies.

The benefits would have to be super awesome.

Like....use of a brand new car for all off hours. A gold gym membership...Nah...Make that a platinum one. An unlimited use of a Visa credit card for Nanny's recreational use.

Now that would sweeten the deal a lot for me.
