MB here. This is outrageous. Do their employers tell them that their paychecks will be delayed b/c they are going out of the country and need to spend that amount for spending money? WTH. You should not be expected to "float" them any money. If they want to spend money that they don't have, they should reconsider whether they can really afford this trip. If they choose to go, let them use their credit cards for it. You need to get paid.
If they don't pay on time, they deserve to lose you. |
Weigh the burden of quitting and finding another job against staying and being eligible for unemployment while you search. But to be clear, this job is over no matter what happens. The request alone was an insult to your relationship. |
Stop feeding the obvious troll. |

Op what ended up happening |
New poster here. I actually quit a job for a similar reason. My first nanny job, I agreed to no paid time off. I soon realized how dumb that was of me, but i liked many other things about it. Two years in, they informed me they were visiting their home country for a month and said, "so you'll have off for that time." They made it sound like I was getting a vacation too.
I thought I was being generous when I told them I would need at least two weeks pay to make it work for me. He told me how they "can't afford it" because their trip cost $5000. I said I have bills too. I let them know I would have to look for another job if I'm going to be out of work for that long. The thing that is so frustrating about these situations is that excuse wouldn't be acceptable to anyone else. Employers wouldnt accept that from their employees. Mortgage and insurance companies would never accept that. Neither would credit card companies or any professional you owe money to. |
Actually, 22;10, if you have ever been a freelancer or owned a small business, you'd know that clients often try to pay late for any number of weird reasons. It doesn't make it right, but it can happen. |
Use the week wisely and get a job search going. |
When your family takes a vacation they don't pay you? Anything? Even a retainer? |
Op again. I had to wait until the 17th but I ended up leaving. They kept giving me grievances about. MB asked me at least another two times about delaying my pay ( she's pushy). I lined up a job and the on the 17th after getting my check I told them I will not be coming back and my reasons for it. They weren't happy at all and MB called my former reference. My former MB and I are close so she told me. I'm just happy I'm out of there. |
OP, so they did pay you the 17th? That's good to hear. |
