nannies working for fed employees RSS feed

You could ask your family if they could lay you off so you can collect unemployment. This would give you immediate income until this over.

At the end of the work day, discreetly (out of earshot of your charges) tell the parent that relieves you that you have heard of a few nannies being let go due to the shutdown and were wondering if you should be making backup plans. That will give them the opportunity to either reassure you that they have the funds to continue to employ you or tell you that a backup plan might be a good idea.

two feds workers here, though DH is working. We pay our nanny as always. (If you can't save 2 weeks of nanny's salary, you probably can't afford to be an employer). I also took the kids for about half the time so she could have some paid time off. We love our nanny and can't afford to pay here the big bucks, but try to show appreciation where we can. its been great to see the kids so much.
