Help me decide - extend or not?

OP here.

We're talking about a 6 month extension (not whole year) which potentially could be shortened further.

She wants to extend because she realizes the clock is ticking, she wants to do substantially more travel (didn't do much in 1st half of year), and feels like time is running out. She wants to extend with us - and not a new family in a new location - because she is comfortable, "feels like a second home." She will return to university in September, finishing in June gives her time to travel after the program, settle in back at home, and be ready to start school again.

We are going to extend. I guess I'll have to report back this spring on whether it is successful or not! We decided that it's relatively low risk (because it's just 6 months, and we can shorten the period), and no matter what, it will get us off the holiday/winter arrival schedule which we find not ideal.

According to our LCC, extensions tend to be successful when there is a "reason" for them (including wanting to travel more). You need to worry when there's no reason, and it's just that the AP doesn't have a clue what else to do with herself.
