I thought that normally employers are legally required to put in writing information regarding possible use of video taping employees.

Easy... "accidentally" put something in front of the cam. done.

OP here. Lol, thanks 21:12 but the camera is up high. I can't reach it without getting on a chair.

Damn! I was hoping it was somewhere easy to mess up! Tell MB/DB how you feel about it.

I recently started a job with 3 visible cameras. I was very uncomfortable at first, and I kept looking at them as I passed by. But a few weeks later, I don't even think about them. Besides the interview, the parents have never referenced them, or called to let me know they were watching us. I don't mind being recorded, but I would not be comfortable knowing I was being watched live all day.

Good luck with what you decide, OP.

i honestly don't see what the big deal is. just go about your day, you'll all get used to it.

How many minutes a day is someday spying on you?

I am a government attorney and am filmed at work all day long

I unplug the baby wifi unless the baby is sleeping. There's no reason for the parents to spy on me. I didn't sign up for that!

MB here. I don't have a nanny cam and have never felt like I needed one. But, if I did, and a nanny was unplugging it during her shift, I would be quietly looking for a new nanny and replace the nanny doing the unplugging as soon as possible. It is well within a parent's rights to have a nanny cam and if a nanny doesn't like it, they are welcome to leave.

Of course, I would also tell the nanny before hiring that I had a nanny cam because I don't think it's right to be sneaky about it.

You know what? It's not about you. I have security camera so I can see the house when I am not there. I also do tune in to see my kid. I couldn't give a crap what you are doing. Unless, you know, you are just sitting there watching (or not watching) the kid jump on the soda.

Most businesses have cameras everywhere except the restroom. I haven't had an employer in 15 years where there weren't cameras filming everything. Get over it. It really isn't about you.

It may not be about you, but I can understand the discomfort. However, every employer I have ever worked for has them too. I looked at the phone call they made to you as supporting you by saying they expect child to behave on your watch or they will have consequences when they get home. That is good parenting.

OP here. Actually, YES, I did tell charge to stop jumping on the couch, atleast 3 times. If they want a camera, their right. I also have the right to be uncomfortable with it.

The camera follows you out to lunch? No. You take a break from the camera.

Its also not right in your work space ie. your desk, and you are not the sole focus of the cameras as another PP pointed out. How would you feel about a company that had a policy of assigning one person to record and monitor the moves of one other employee? They watched and critiqued every move you make, including your breaks, except for when you're in the bathroom, only you would never know if you were being monitored in the bathroom because the employer doesn't ven have to tell you about the cameras. I understand why a parent would do the camera thing, but I also completely understand why a nanny would be uncomfortable and I really wish more parents were sensitive to the issue. You say you don't trust us because you don't know us. I get it. I also don't trust you initially to use the footage appropriately, take appropriate measure to ensure my privacy in the bathrooms, and being sure that your setup is not easily tapped into (which many systems are!) I want to know that you have cameras, and have the opportunity to ask that they not be in view of the bathroom or other private places (my living quarters). And even still, I'd just bide my time until I could find another job.
