WFH doesn't mean SAHP

Arrange childcare when you go out for the day and your WFH partner is working.

Wait, are you annoyed at a spouse? Or a co-worker who works from home? Or something else?

If it’s your spouse, why don’t you tell them rather than us? I’ve sever heard of such a thing.

In any case: I’d suggest you work on your communication skills.

I feel like by this point (not April 2020) pretty much every large company has a policy and everyone in a 9 to 5 professional job has some sort of childcare—nanny, au pair, daycare etc for at least the majority of the day.

The people who don’t are exceptions

OP this is not pervasive. Do you have a particular example you want to discuss rather than acting like it's the norm?

DP here. At my ES it is. Pickup is at 2:15 and the vast majority of parents there are going home to keep “working” with their kindergartner at home. The amount of kids in aftercare at our school is about half of pre Covid.

The majority of parents at your ES have kindergarteners?

I know plenty of parents who have flex schedules, so one parent can be available after school. That doesn't mean that they're doing what OP is accusing them of.

The assumptions the PP is making are ridiculous. Perhaps that parent started working at 5AM like my spouse does. He’s “on” all day every day anyway. It’s like the person who starts this thread hasn’t worked in a long time and is just making totally uninformed conclusions from random observations of people in her neighborhood.

Thank goodness for it. We were able to get off the waitlist this year!

Right?? It’s helping families that really need it because their jobs don’t provide flexibility. There is always a huge waitlist at our school.

WFH doesn't absolve you of being a parent. Why should the partner be the one arranging childcare, why shouldn't the WFH parent arrange their own childcare?

This^.

Not OP, but this is the norm in my workplace. Parents are on 9-3:30ish only
