I have a friend who texts me A LOT. I always respond even if it’s short and sweet. Lately I notice I get the message that notifications are silenced. I had wondered is that just for me or does everyone who text her receive that? Also we were in a group text earlier today (that she is also in) and when I texted in that one, I did not get the notifications are silenced response. |
They probably turned on focus mode. |
Group chats won’t show is one person has their notifications silenced. |

My phone keeps putting on Do Not Disturb when I never asked it to. No idea why. No idea how to stop it. |
I silence every text message and group text. I can't stand when my phone constantly buzzes. |
I silence most group texts too. Not individual people because usually if one person texts me and I don't respond right away, they won't then send 20 more texts. But that can happen all the time with group texts because other people respond. It's very irritating if I'm in a situation where I need my phone on (say my kid is home with a sitter or at school -- I can't just turn off my phone) but don't want to be bothered with constant messages. So all group texts are silenced by default.
I don't know if other people get a message that my notifications are silenced. If so they've never mentioned it. |
I have absolutely everything on my phone and computer silenced 99% of the time. Our bodies and minds were not meant to listen to alerts all the time. |
There are some glitches with the latest iOS. One is text notifications being randomly silenced and this message gets sent out to everyone who texts the recipient. The second glitch is the alarms not working on certain model iPhones. |
I switched to an Android about 6 months ago but one of the many things I hated about my iPhone was glitchiness with alarms. It would just randomly not do them sometimes. I'd go back in and double check that it was set like 14 times, and it still wouldn't go off. There was also a lot of weirdness with the volume control -- the only way to ensure my phone would not make a noise would be to turn it off. But conversely, I would often miss calls or texts because even though the volume was on and I hadn't silenced those callers/texters, my phone would make no noise at all when they came in. It was baffling. I have a Google Pixel now and so far at least, I haven't had any of these issues. I am kind of annoyed I stuck with the iPhone so long because I think it's actually a pretty crap smart phone. |
So if Bill, Kathy, Bob and Joe are in a group text, you're saying no one will get alerts if Joe has the thread muted? That's not true. |
no. If Bill has his notifications silenced and Bob texts the group, everybody will get the notification but it won't show that Bill's notifications are silenced. |
I always keep my telephone in silence mode. With the only calls that could break through being from my husband or two children.
That said, I check my phone periodically through the day to see if I missed any calls or messages. I guess this works for me because I do not use my personal cell phone for work. We have teams and anybody at work can come through teams. |
I spend a lot of time looking at my phone. I almost always have mine on silent. But I don't always have it on DnD.
I do put on DnD when I to bed. |
Me too. I used to have a principal who was very strict about teachers having notifications/calls silenced and I still keep it that way years later. |
