Best way to get from Newark Airport to midtown Manhattan with a family of 5?

Can anyone recommend a good shuttle service, etc.? Not looking to do public transportation for this.

Do you need carseats?

There is a shuttle that runs to midtown but I wouldn't call it luxurious or anything. Its operated by Coach USA

But honestly taking the Airtrain to the New Jersey Transit train to Penn station is not bad at all and may even be faster depending on the time of day.

Op here. No I'd rather not haul around a carseat

Only going or be there 2-3 days and plan on using mostly subway

If you’re going to be using the subway while in Manhattan anyway, just use the AirTran/NJ Transit trains to get from the airport. It’s very quick and convenient.

Uber or Lyft XL. Or maybe even get a car service so the driver will meet you inside to help with the bags.

I wouldn't do 3 young kids + luggage on the AirTrain to NJ Transit. What a mess.

FYI - Lower Manhattan is easier to get to/from EWR. If you're not wedded to Midtown, I'd rebook somewhere in the Financial District. It's so easy to get anywhere in Manhattan from FiDi since all the trains congregate in FiDi, including tons of express trains.

To be clear, it's very easy to get to west and east sides from FiDi. I love staying there because I can basically get anywhere in Manhattan below 96th Street in like 20-25 minutes.

I think it really depends on the ages of the kids. I’d have a different answer if 3 young kids means 1, 3, and 5 year olds vs a 5 year old and twin 7 year olds. For the younger set who need strollers and can’t carry their own luggage, I’d recommend car service with car seats arranged to be in the car. For the older set I’d do Uber XL with backpacks and bubblebums. You don’t need much luggage for 2-3 days.

Uber will be the most convenient option. You can check the price now yo get a ballpark figure.

Amtrak Acela First Class. Eat quick!

If you need car seats and won’t have them, do the Air Train. I have done this many times with 3 small children.

uber's is the easiest and may not cost as much as you think. We have done Newark to the Financial District many times like a previous poster. Midtown would be a bit further.
