Hotel room does not have door stopper. How do I make sure the door is securely locked?

I’m staying by myself in a hotel, where there is no door stopper for the door to the room. It’s very easy to push the security latch open, and my attempts to wedge things at the bottom of the door aren’t working. Does anyone have a hack for how to ensure nobody can open the door?

Can you brace a chair under the knob?

Can you ask for a door stopper? Although, if the security latch can easily be breached, I’d be requesting a different room asap.

I always wonder this.

Just go to dollar store or find one laying around hotel. I am sure front desk would lend you one.

Do hotel rooms typically have a door stopper? I have never noticed one. A door bolt seems pretty secure to me.

Hotel rooms usually have door stoppers? I have never thought to look for one.

So the security latch doesn't stop the door from opening more than an inch or so? That's very odd. I would ask for another room.

When you say it's easy to push the security latch open, what do you mean? If you open the door with the latch closed, it doesn't catch the door? Keep in mind that those latches aren't designed to keep the door closed, they are designed to keep the door from opening more than an inch or two.

Can someone post a pic of what the OP is looking for/the hotel room is lacking? Is it the door latch thingy? Or an actual door stop that goes at the bottom of the door?

If you feel unsafe, you should explain your concern to the hotel and see if they can provide a helpful solution. If they cannot, it may be necessary to change hotels.

That said, if you tug on the door handle from the inside and the door doesn't open, it's closed. You should be able to turn a deadbolt knob to lock it, and the security latch is just a supplement which allows the door to be opened an inch or two if you want to speak with someone outside without fully unsecuring the door. The latch is not the primary security mechanism.
