Looking for a new indoor pool to swim daily laps

Anonymous
I'm so over my gym's two-lane pool. I always have to share a lane with men whose long arms hit me in the face or throw me into the wall when they're passing.

Now that the summer is ending and I'm losing my access to an outdoor pool, where can I find an indoor pool that's open until 8 or 9 pm and doesn't block all the daytime and weekend hours for a swim team?

Thank you!

It would help if you shared where you live.

If dmv

YMCA - outdoor pool heated in winter and 2 indoor

Jewish community centers (one in rockville has 3 pools - 1 indoor and 2 outdoor heated plus baby pool.

Woodrow Wilson HS pool open to public (I keep forgetting their new name) - Tenley town DC

I am sure there are options in NOVA too.

Swimly to rent a pool

Yes Jackson Reed High School in Tenley Town is awesome. I think MWF it’s 50 meters and TTh it’s 25. I do sometimes split a lane with another swimmer but it’s never too crowded, and super convenient!

Thanks for these suggestions. Sorry, I did forget to say where I live. I'm in Bethesda but work in NW DC so either is good.

I appreciate the info about the high schools. But are there any new health clubs or gyms that have pools?

Just want to add that I feel your pain although I don’t have a pool to suggest. As an age group, high school and masters swimmer, I rarely had contact with another swimmer in a shared lane. But men trying to swim for fitness manspread. I hate it. Your freestyle should not cross the black line! All those arrogant triathletes and weird old men have the most annoying slapping variety of freestyle and need an adult swim lesson.

Also, much like seats on the bus or the train, a man will always join my lane before they join a lane occupied by another man. And if I’m swimming in a lane marked fast, they will select that one regardless of whether they should be there.

JCC, YMCA and Jackson-Reed are your best bet and biggest pools unless you want to join Kenwood (private country club), which has an indoor seven-lane 25y pool but the initiation fee and monthly dues are steep

The Wilson pool has been plagued with issues and is currently closed until further notice. One Life (fka Sport and Health) in Fort Totten has an indoor saltwater pool, and I believe the new Tenley location (near Wegman’s) will also have a pool when it opens. The One Life in Bethesda also has a pool - it’s older.

The Wilson/J-R pool is amazing, but it will be closed until at least February.

Very few health clubs/gyms have the kind of lap pool you want: multiple lanes, cool water. The B-CC Y has outdoor swimming year-round (unless it's below 32F), though the indoor pools are hot AF. KSAC in N. Bethesda is great, but probably too busy for what you want. I've heard good things about the JCC. The pool at Jackson-Reed/Wilson is terrific, but PPs have noted the issues.

Maybe the pool at AU? Not sure what the access is like.

One Life Fitness has a 4 lane pool. You reserve a lane (2 lanes are 1 swimmer and 2 are soluble occupancy). I usually end up alone in a double occupancy lane (but I can share easily enough as needed)

I swim at LifeTime which has excellent lap lane availability at most pools. The fairfax one is only 2 lanes and the pool is short so super annoying, but the other locations have many available lanes. Not sure how many locations they have in MD.

A new county pool is coming to Silver Spring by year end.
