Help me setup a game room - looking for air hockey table an other games please recommend

What do you recommend? Please help, single mom here that was never a gamer, trying to setup a nice game room for my two boys. I'm thinking to start by air hockey table (they seem to be into it that's why it is my first buy), then add nintendo (please recommend what setup could work for when they have friends over, i.e, something that 4 kids could play), what else is there?

Think reasonable budget, I know you can easily spend $5k to $8 even for an air hockey table, but that's not what I'm after. I'm thinking max around $850 for air hockey table (not looking for the $139 table at wayfair that breaks before next season either).

Any guidance appreciated. Thanks.

Ping pong has been pretty popular with our family and our kids friends. Also I like the fact that it can be folded up when necessary. Which is why we didn’t get a pool table which would permanently take up space and would require tons of effort to move. Even a smaller budget table would be fun.

Air hockey is so loud. I would not want that in my house.

Ours has
air hockey
ping pong
darts
Nintendo switch with 4 controllers and accessories (steering wheels, controller grips)
55” TV for gaming or movies

We got our air hockey table for $200 on fb marketplace. Ours is super heavy and took three people to transport. It’s not loud though.

I know you said you didn't want to spend a lot of money, but a professional air hockey table has been amazing in our game room. We had it installed in 2001, and 22 years later it's still going strong! It's heavy-duty, and it's seen its share of parties. Our kids are grown now & still play on the table when they visit home. I'm a big air hockey fan and I don't think the inexpensive versions are enjoyable, because you can't be as aggressive.

Foosball table that turns into a (smallish) ping pong table. It's one of those 2-in1 types.

Comfy couches and leg room.

Relatively large screen TV if you don't have one already.
Dh has speakers mounted on the wall. I hate them. YMMV.

My experience is that except for video games most of those games lose their allure pretty quickly. Which means you can get them used cheap. Pool tables in particular you can get for the cost of moving.

We have:
Sectional from Bob's (with the goof off plan because, teens)
Play Station
Ping pong
Foosball
Mini refrigerator with Gatorade, Sprite, etc

OP. Thanks. Yes, i'd like a multi-use table or a conversion top, there's no space for more than one table.

I was looking for an air hockey table a couple of years ago and there are a ton of really high-end used ones available on Facebook Marketplace for very reasonable prices. I think it is something you have for 4 or 5 years while kids are in middle/high school and then you get rid of it. No way would I buy a new one for several thousand dollars.

OP what ages are your boys?

Agree with PPs - I have three boys and while some of it is personality type, most of these larger items didn’t hold interest long unfortunately.
