This is our first year needing to do this and our pediatrician doesn't have an in person appointment til October! Can I take my son anywhere else for a sports physical - do they do them at CVS/Walgreens? Or does FCPS provide a location for these? I didn't see any info on their website besides the form that needs to be filled out. |
Yes, some of the CVS in the area provide this service. Just go online and make an appointment. FCPS also has several "Physical Nights" at various high schools, but those happened earlier this summer and I'm not aware that there are any others scheduled. |
The urgent care on Maple in Vienna did one for my son a few weeks ago. |
Meant to say Health Check Urgent Care on Maple. The Inova Urgent Care on Maple is worthless; don’t go there. |
Patient First in Falls Church does walk-in sports physicals. But find the urgent care nearest you -- almost all of them do sports physicals. |
I’ve had a good experience there but I wouldn’t go for a sports physical. Any urgent care would charge us a higher copay. I’d make an appointment at CVS minute clinic or walk into Patient First. |
Thanks! |
Our pediatrician wants $130 to schedule one of these and claims no insurance covers it :'(
Can folks please share where they did theirs and how much it cost? |
um, if you've had a well visit since May something you usually just drop the form by your ped off and they fill it out? If we are too late, I see if my kids can see an NP for a well visit (usually faster) and they do it then.
You shouldn't need an "extra visit" but you have to have a well visit during a certain time frame. I guess we are lucky at our office? Otherwise I'd do CVS |
Kind of a bummer with a March born kid who has his physical in March. Looks like they need the forms to be signed after May 1st each year. Thank you for the idea -- got an appt with CVS! |
Our pediatrician used to fill out forms anytime as long as they saw them within the last few months. They charged for forms though. The best way going forward is do it with the schools at the physical night in June. It’s $50, a fundraiser and the forms are filed automatically. Just have to sign up quickly as spots go fast. |
Our pediatrician does them for a small admin fee, which is an arrangement I am happy with. It does take time and take away from other duties even when the forms are generic (not onerous). This is maybe one (and only one) time it is helpful having kids with summer bdays! |
+1 Ours fills them out if kid has been seen in last 12 months. |
You may get hit with this, as we did, during the first year of HS. We didn't know about the May 1st cutoff and had done a physical in April of 8th grade. In 9th grade I moved the physical to May which allowed the yearly physical to be used when filling out the forms. You're getting hit with a hefty fee because of already having a physical in the calendar year. It's super annoying that FCPS doesn't inform middle school families about the May 1st cutoff. Once you get on an "after May 1st" rotation for the yearly physical you will likely only have to pay $10 - $20 to have the form filled out. |
Schedule your March kid in May. DS is a June bday and goes for his physical in August because of camps and vacations. The two month delay doesn’t really matter and the next year the appointment is a year after his last. |
