$6k budget for (air/hotel) 6 people.
4 or 5 nights |
Upstate new york and drive there. Or New Hampshire lake, air BNB. Don't fly it will use your entire budget. You can't fly 6 people anywhere and also house them for a week for $6K. |
Madison, WI? nice lakes, motoroboating/waterskiing and sailing/kayaking/canoeing for kids. |
West Virginia |
Myrtle beach? Charleston? |
A National Park. Agree with PP that you can't fly 6 folks for that budget, so with a day's driving distance from DC ... maybe Smoky Mountains in Tennessee? Mammoth Cave in Kentucky? |
I think you could find some very cheap (like sub 100 dollars a person) fares to florida. But caution: it is hurricane season.
Amtrak has also been running promos for “kids ride free” so maybe there is a train destination that would work |
Op here. Actually, you can. I found flights and hotel in Grand Cayman for 5 nights for $5500. I know a car rental and food will be $$$$ so I’m looking for other options. |
Umm, that’s exactly what the PP was saying. You seem a bit rude. |
? The pp said you can’t fly and house 6 people for $6k bc flights will eat up the entire budget. I have found flights and hotel for less than $6k. To Grand Cayman, St. Thomas, etc. I know that car rental and food on GC will be more than most destinations, so I’m still looking. But you absolutely can find flights and hotel for $6k or less. |
Caribbean, OP, because of the potential for smoke in much of the US and Europe. We’re sadly limited when looking for our last-minute August vacation. |
Agreed. The Canadian wildfires are ridiculous. |
Only flying 6 within that budget might be Florida. Try Tampa, Sarasota, destin.
Otherwise, drive somewhere. Lake George. Deep creek lake. Lake Anna. Acadia national park. Pittsburg, falling water and Nemacolin. Beach house somewhere but you’d probably have to pay for a full week in august. Try sand bridge Va. or, new River gorge national park and camping or cabins. |
Smoke Mountains are underrated -- we had a great time there, and it's not a bad drive. Find a VRBO/Airbnb and you'll probably come home with money. |
