A new charity has been registered out of little Buda, Texas recently:

“The Big Sis/Sass Collective”

So she wrote a cookbook and some time between writing and publishing, she started dating Tyler.

She made a sappy dedication to him in her pinned book publishing post saying she'd remake the recipes to vegetarian so he could eat them which he didn't bother to thumbs up. Jennifer Garner did but Tyler couldn't be bothered even though she constantly tags him in stuff?

He, who I'd never heard of before they started dating, enjoying a big bump in social media following after Jen introduced him as her man, does not interact with her on social media or does so only minimally. He obviously knows how social media works and is active on social media and interacts with fans who show interest in his tee shirts.

Do I have this right or am I missing some piece of the puzzle

I just looked at the comments on her most recent cruise post and I can’t believe there are actually people going on this.

There are a bazillion cruises to book at any given time. What is so appealing about this one?

My SIL was in the travel industry for years and instead of wishing friends and family “bon voyage” she’ll say, “enjoy your time in a floating Petri dish.”

I always found the idea a little slimy and there was always the undercurrent of "let us choose where your $ will work best becase we know best" that was kinda cringy. but not gonna lie I did think about joining LC a time or two just to get invited to one of the hatmaker backyeard shindigs. My friend went back in the day predivorce and said it was fantastic.

I felt bad for Jen in the announcement. She looked really sad & vulnerable & for once didn't seem OTT

Who actually donates to these scammy charities? Would love to see a demographic profile. Same people who play the lottery every week?

You give money to a celebrity middleman who then takes the money then decides to cut a new, larger check for the charity of their choice. After, of course, taking some off the top for administration, marketing, and whatever else. I think the LC and TR had full time people on staff.

Jen and Glennon could then back in the glow of being altruistic givers for Instagram photo ops. “So thrilled that the Legacy Collective is now partying with Help A Momma America with $10,000”. Rinse and repeat.

Why not ask your followers to give directly to recommended charity?

Thanks PP, for explaining this.

Was this a trendy fundraising type thing to do circa 2008? Asking because in my dcumlandia suburb I can think of a group of college friends who formed a charity, got together and threw themselves fancy “benefit parties” at a country club with monies earmarked for some inner city program.

Another began a charity in honor of a family member who died tragically and there was a flurry of 5ks, golf tournaments and even online sales. In both cases, the charities disbanded after a few years.

Exactly this. They were set up for social climber types to amplify their “brands” in the non-profit space and look like super giving heroes. Of course there a ton of waste and unnecessary tax write offs. They can be easily mismanaged to become little cash cows. Parties, trips, gifts, meals.

PP re charities. Why must anyone establish their own charity? I find this outrageously narcissistic. Certainly there are established, well-run organizations that share your values and would give to your very specific interests.

Enough with starting your own charity!

“ After twelve years of turning heartbreak into action – and supporting families, individuals and organizations like yours with $55,118,582.16 – Together Rising’s Board of Directors has determined it is time to sunset the organization.

This huge decision has been in the making for a long while, and it has been made unanimously by the entire Together Rising Board — without controversy, without strife, with just our steady grateful hearts knowing: Yes, it’s time. It’s as important to know when to end a beautiful thing as it is to know when to begin a beautiful thing.”

Weird that LC and TR are closing at the same time for sure. Did some sort of tax change lead to this for non profits or did they just both reach their end at the same time?

Someone commented on her Instagram post that Glennon’s grifty “charity” is closing too.
Hmmmmmm…..
