I’m black and I’ve been following given some upcoming work and personal (domestic) travel, but we haven’t cancelled anything.
“But the degree of fear is not universal. In Harlem, if there was hysteria, it was hard to find last week.
“People up here aren’t really paranoid, not yet,” said Sharon John, a street vendor selling T-shirts in front of the Apollo Theater, who had been a nursing assistant for more than four decades.
“It’s going to take a little more than that to get Harlem going.”

Also my spouse (also black) is a healthcare provider, so is staying on top of their hospital’s current guidelines and other developments. But we don’t know anyone AA who really really seems to be panicking.
I'm white and I don't know anyone IRL who is panicking either. It seems mostly online paranoia and the media.
People are aware. And taking some caution (my parents are active in retirement groups and events are being cancelled left and right at retirement homes/senior centers). But beyond that it's not doom and gloom.

The Saudis have locked down the Qatif area in the Eastern province. Many of the residents work at Saudi Aramco, the national oil company. The population is largely Shi'ite, and 11 people have been found to be infected, all related to travel to Iran. No one is allowed to leave, but residents may return.
The Palestine Authority also instituted a lockdown on the Bethlehem area last Thursday, shortly after confirming 4 cases, all related to Italian tourists.

200 new cases, 1018 total.
And zero deaths. That is the critical factor.
That is encouraging. Thanks for sharing that. These threads have me increasingly anxious.
Sorry to give you a different point of view.
Reddit is full of German posters decrying the strict testing policies in most (not all) areas of Germany. They are completely incredulous that there are zero deaths in Germany. People who were admitted to the hospital with pneumonia without having been tested are being recorded as flu deaths. Unlike Spain, Germany has done no retrospective testing of untested pneumonia deaths.
How many recent elderly pneumonia deaths in the US do you think may have been covid19?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Average age of contracting this is 60 and death is 80.
People that age should be just quarantining themselves. The rest of us don’t need to disrupt our lives over a cold and fever that is mild for over 90% of people
Not everyone 60-80 is retired. All of my specialists are over 60. DH’s oncologist is 61. Many lawmakers and school administrators are over 60. Things will falter if they stay home.

It is urging anyone with a flu-like symptom to get tested. Previously, testing was advised only for those with travel to a hotspot or who had contact with a confirmed case.
The health minister is now saying the government would rather overtest than undertest. "Get yourself tested."

This is what the US should do also. It's what Korea did, their case numbers are going down and their CFR is under 1%.
