No luck for us. We had the WISC of 120. Did not send it in just appealed with letter and work samples. So I guess we will try again next year. This is a fantastic learning experience though. It has made my DD more determined to succeed. Success is not always just getting into an AAP class, so I am excited to see where this lesson takes her.

Thank you, that's good to hear! This whole thing is new to my husband--he thinks we should wait a year because dc is doing so well at the current school and dc is very happy and does not want to move right now, so I guess we will wait.

Do any experienced parents know if our child will automatically receive Level III services at the base school every year if we don't end up going to the center? I know it will happen next year if we defer, as the yellow form said so, but is that decided on an annual basis, or is it an automatic thing once the child qualifies for Level IV?

Agree. I'm admittedly new to all this, but I'd say that unless your child has been getting very poor grades and/or had NNAT and CogAt scores that were way below the average, something seems very off.

I was told to ask the office for a copy of the aap packet by her as well. she was not helpful.

That's really disappointing to hear. I understand that she may not have time to meet with everyone, but she should have at least been the person to make sure you got the screening file. That is her job, and that is the person FCPS tells you to contact. I requested conferences with both my child's teacher and the AART after receiving the initial determination, and both talked to me on the phone (separately) for over 15 minutes. It was partially based on those conversations that I felt comfortable going forward with the appeal. If they had given me a sign that my child could not handle the program, I probably would not have pursued it. Oh, and the AART got the file ready for me in just a day or two. Sorry you did not get more support.

when I asked further I was told I needed to discuss my concerns with the principal.

I don't have any thoughts but am roughly in the same boat, with the same GBRS and a slighly lower FSIQ. Even though they review the new information with the appeal, I hope the decent GBRS improves our case. This whole process is very frustrating.
