Two female soldiers were rescued from a haredi (ultra-Orthodox) mob in Bnei Brak by Israel Police, police said in a Sunday afternoon statement.

“A report was received about a gathering of a small group of lawbreakers on Hagai Street in Bnei Brak, who had surrounded two female soldiers after they arrived to conduct a welfare activity as part of their service in the IDF,” the police said.

Officers from the Bnei Brak and Ramat Gan stations arrived on scene to escort the soldiers to safety, police said, noting that as forces arrived on scene, the mob began “confronting the officers and throwing trash bins into the path of the patrol vehicle.”

According to footage circulating on social media, the mob flipped over a car during its chase, and continued to follow the soldiers as police escorted them further away and around a corner to safety.

I’m in my 50s. I remember lots of people saying this in the late 70s after the Iranian revolution and the opec stuff left us all sitting there with lights off and warm cardigans and gas lines. I also remember people saying it after 9/11 when it became clear our gas money had funded our own attack. It is constantly amazing to me that republicans aren’t concerned about this as a national security issue. I feel like the majority of my life has been spent in a stupid merry go round on this issue where we end up in exactly the same place — still dependent on middle eastern oil instead of figuring out a sustainable way to make our own energy.

Also, doesn’t this all help Russia? It probably just gave them enough economic juice to continue on ….

Yes, I was explaining this yesterday. If the war is short-lived, it will be fine. The truth of the matter is, Iran cannot defy all their neighbors plus Israel plus the US all at the same time. It's in a bind, because the only cards it can play are cards that hurt its immediate neighbors, who have oil to move in the Persian Gulf. How badly is each neighboring country going to react? We don't know yet. But if the conflict drags on and the straights of Hormuz stay unsafe for months on end... Russia might get enough of a boost to make the difference in Ukraine.

I guess Iran said that if Israel/USA are going to frack up their infrastructure and oil economy with the support of Arab countries, some of them will feel some similar pain. Interesting how hard they are going after the UAE, first the hotel, the port and now oil tanker. I found this political comic is interesting for how some in the region are feeling.
