***How was your recent Amtrak ride?***
Crickets coming.
1). It’s dysfunctional, dirty and customer service is a joke
2). Anyone can bring weapons on board. There is no screening
3). Americans hate each other and we treasure our privacy. Hence, our national love affair with the car
4). Who will ride across the country on Amtrak when they could fly? Don’t say “but Shinkansen!” Or “but TGV!” Can you imagine how much that would cost and how long that would take to get that going?
Trump is again asking Congress to slash Amtrak funding
Sean Jeans-Gail, vice president of the Rail Passengers Association, said the cuts would hit rural areas particularly hard. The long-distance routes provide the only form of passenger train travel in many communities across the contiguous United States, reaching 140 million Americans in 23 states, he said.
“Trump’s base is rural, where Amtrak provides a very essential service that the free market is not going to provide,” Jeans-Gail said. “But his message is: ‘Screw you the rural stations.’ ”

How typical that the Republicans sabotage progress and then use the results as an excuse as to why progress is impossible! We see you and your dishonest games even if your own ignorant base has been hoodwinked.

The point of spr release is for super dire emergencies - like getting nuked or attacked
Not because Melissa and brad are mad in ohio that their suburban is expensive
Perfect time to go long oil even more
Lol, a war that threatens supply is pretty much the standard reason for an SPR release. Especially a war that threatens the supply of sour which is what the SPR is made up of.
Supply isn’t being threatened in the typical sense.
Supply is being politically throttled due to political choices being made.
And it doesn’t even matter as that “sanctioned” supply is finding its way onto the global market anyways
Spr releases that Biden keeps doing are 💯 political, not strategic.
Complaining about Biden's SPR releases but no previous President's is 💯 political, not policy. This upcoming release is just as legitimate as when it was done during Desert Storm.

So an entire electric grid and EV charging infra would have been good to go and resilient to these gas shocks if we had started a few year ago?
Nice, why didn't we think of that sooner!
Yes, actually. The technology has been available for plenty long enough. We could have been building a functional commuter train network. We could have done a lot if not for the fossil fuel industry and their minions in congress. Electric cars were first developed decades ago. Even ICE engines could be way more efficient than 20 mpg if not for car companies marketing horsepower and red blooded American aggression over fuel efficiency and environmental protection. You guys stood in the way and now want to complain about fuel prices. So transparent.
Interesting. Show me a country comparable to the United States where this is the case. Or are those damn "Republicans" slowing things down elsewhere too? Even climate-forward European countries are suffering from these shocks. Just spoke to a friend from Norway a few days ago, and he is absolutely feeling the pinch in his electricity prices.
The USA is the only global superpower. If we wanted to we could have changed the entire world order of energy production. Europe has conservatives and greedy oil corporations too ya know! Europeans also can easily get to work without car transportation. Even that one factor would place us in a better position but the Republicans don’t want a functional rail system in this country.
So, in short, you are talking out of your behind and relying on magical thinking. Thanks.

Meanwhile, we are sitting on oil reserves that could power our own country, but….ah, politics.
