You fell prey to Robert's version of events ( which is really all we get in season 1). There are clearer signs in the book and a few in the show to suggest Robert's version isn't accurate and more about his ego and justification for war than about reality.

Not just someone else's baby. A baby with a stronger claim to the Iron Throne. He killed Rhaegar's other children and plotted to kill Dany as well. Jon would not have survived.

The Targaryens have the coloring they do through years of in-breeding, so going outside of the bloodline can produce unpredictable results.

This is all so great and perfectly cast as the actor that plays JS is a peerage guy IRL although, by the looks of him, a stable hand (or Ringo Starr) seems to have crept into the Lady's chamber.

Jon seems quite dark to be half Targaryen--but I'll have to watch finale again, of course, and focus on the Lianna scene...

This is correct. Lyanna was promised to Robert, but Rhaegar was smitten with her. The rumor is that Rhaegar kidnapped her and kept her in the Tower of Joy (where Ned found her), but there are signs that point to a consensual relationship.

In any case, it's only been theory that R+L=J for years, and it was satisfying to see that confirmed last night.
