She posted about selling it in October of 2020. We discussed it in this thread.

Brandon’s transformation was sort of jarring. The Barefoot Church pastor becoming a biker guy overnight. Didn’t he step down from ANC before the divorce? I guess to do the non profit thing? Are any Hatmakers still a part of ANC? It appears that ANC is still around but it looks like they are down to one service and it appears like it’s a pretty tiny church now too. It looks like most of who’s actually going are the musicians and pastors. It would be interesting to know what the story is there.

Addiction. He already admitted going to rehab and having a relapse. Enough for them to immediately sell the lake house.

There may have been cheating or other bad choices during his addiction. But that’s speculation

It didn’t say. The post is removed now, or made private.

IMO- BJ Hatmaker had a midlife crisis beginning around 37 or so. When we first start led attending ANC back when they were having church at the Akins Highschool Auditorium, Brandon was a much different guy. He was light hearted, had maybe one or two tattoos if I recall, wore low top chuck taylor sneakers, and was generally a nice, approachable, “pastor” type. Very calm, good sense of humor, and I’d say very relatable, humble, and very likeable. Jen was much the same, although she struck me as way more outgoing and a someone who attracts people to her. But both were very nice and the church was inviting and energetic. It was a different kind of church and not all high and mighty. That dynamic slowly changed. A year or 2 later they’d lived to Jackie’s on Manchaca and things began to change. The church was growing - now they had two morning services every Sunday. Lots of families. Great live musicians. But Brandon all of a sudden was getting more and more inked up. He preached about hanging with bikers and guys you’d never think to be around. He started getting more of a bad boy type of image. I think he had an identity crisis. He wanted to be a bad ass or was trying to find himself. Look at the change physically he had in 10 years. He’s bulked up tremendously- I bet he is 30-40 lbs heavier- he isn’t fat but he beefed up. He grew his beard fuller, more tats, kind of wears biker-ish clothes and just looks much different. Perhaps, somewhere in “finding himself” is the onset of addiction, whatever it may be. It likely doesn’t matter- gambling, alcohol, drugs, porn. Maybe the escape or something was his self medication and it was extremely harmful. Somewhere along the way, the dynamics of his marriage and their life took a drastically different course- which I think it does for a lot of folks. Theirs just happens to be in the public eye and all of us have our opinions and thoughts. They, and Jen especially, have a bit of a sanctimonious heir about then and it is a lightening rod for criticism. But they’re in the public eye and she has always put her family out there. She monetized them and her lifestyle. So, I think that’s the price she’s paying unfortunately.

It's so sad to me. She was so down to earth and now....she is so unrelatable. Like, most people will never be able to afford Hamilton or Beauty Counter or "once in a lifetime' trips she does quarterly...but yet she is selling it all...what did Brandon do to bring in the $ before the divorce that she has resorted to all the shilling now? I thought he was a pastor at their church, and most pastors aren't generally known for making bank, unless they are a mega church pastor. I just don't get it. I certainly understand sellling for your family but not when it is directly in line with the values of 'less' and selflessness she used to spout.

My father is a pastor and we know others. I wouldn't say they are poor. Most pastors of established churches make a six figure income. It doesn't have to be a megachurch it mainly just needs to be a church that manages money well and has consistent tithers.

I think it may have more to do with Covid - a lot of her money likely came from public speaking engagements and book tours.

Boo. Jen, you're so much better than this!
