Cornell is quite magical! Walking through the campus with the bells tolling is something else. Yes, Ithaca is a bit rundown but honestly, for undergrads, you have a ton of eating places and at least one of each of the big utility store. Getting there is the pain though unless you are from the tri state area.

Pepperdine for me. I had a friend there and stayed for the weekend, it was gorgeous. For some reason the northeast schools and Virginia feel old, heavy and depressing to me.

I have visited so many campuses all over the country. Rice is such a great campus-beautiful and well laid out.

Tulane is a very pretty campus. We just got back from visiting, and I thought it was lovely and unique. It's next to a very nice park and golf course too. Ideal for my golfer DS!

I refused even to your Rensselaer Polytechnic in the old times because I thought Troy was so hideous.
But now I know that Troy is really in the middle of a spectacularly gorgeous region.
It’s hard to know what a campus is really like when you’re just breezing through and not actually enrolled.
And I think excessive manicuring may be a little alienating. Northwestern was perfectly maintained when I was there but didn’t seem very nice. The manicuring contributed to me feeling that it was a cold, uncaring place.

Beauty is surely in the eyes of the beholder. There are so many beautiful campuses in this country, we are fortunate. For the kids of several friends, an urban campus is their beautiful place. For my kid at W&M, with the amount of time she spends outdoors, it is amazing to be surrounded by such beauty. Another of mine attends a school in a happening city that has a beautiful campus. Friends have kids in remote areas, on campuses within easy walks of great downtowns, the list goes on. All up to your kid to see what speaks to them.

I thought it was one of the nicest we saw.
I thought W&M was just okay. I give them points for cohesiveness and nice brick buildings, but its campus appears boring and sterile. I’ve been to a number of schools I like better.

Did it ever occur to you that these institutions are public and have limited resources? No, of course not, but then you are the the type if poster who will complain if a public has spent too much on a new gym, climbing walk, dining hall or dorms.

Wow. You.are.crazy. I was the poster of this remark. It is the only post I made because we aren’t looking at UVA, but had just been to W&M. I think you really need to take a step back here, seriously. More than one poster has said you are really having some outsized reactions.
