At first I thought these emails were written by people who didn't understand that it was Washington Home that decided to sell. Then I believed it was just folk who enjoy bashing Sidwell Friends for whatever reason. Sidwell has stellar athletic facilities and strong teams for its league. But the vast majority of the school is focused on the classroom.

High school sports people. Travel 50 miles in any direction and you won't find anyone in town talking about Gonzaga or DeMatha or SF. Locally in all those directions they care about their own local school teams, enjoy those rivalries and are a lot more concerned about their problems of the day than Gonzaga's new guy(s) on the football team. You guys are an easy mark, barking it out at the TV when you see a Gonzaga football player playing QB in college. Well, great for that kid and that family. Seems more exciting than the fried cheese at TGI Friday's. At least he had the common sense to pick a college as far as possible away from the rest of you Zaga lunatics.

Congrats to the SF boys. High school sports should be fun and rewarding for what they earned, and good for them.

First of all, "considering Gonzaga" doesn't mean that these SFS players could have started for Gonzaga.
Secondly, being "recruited for college" doesn't mean these kids will contribute at the college level much less make the team.
Every school in the area has a few stud athletes. It's no great badge for SFS boosters to boast about these kids. The overall state of your program is mediocre. Most seem to accept and embrace it, emphasizing that they value academics far over athletics and criticizing other schools which seem more balance. Oddly though, these same people become rabid at the slightest athletic success and start throwing grenades at other more athletically inclined schools. "See! we have athletes too! Kids that could star at your school and aren't idiots!" Strange, strange behavior. And certainly not very Quakerly. Peace out.

It's not about Gonzaga at all. Most decent public school teams would easily beat SF.

95% percent of the time I would agree with you. However Gonzaga recruits pretty much anyone who can score a TD or make a 3 pointer.

It's pathetic how often you see Gonzaga scouts in their purple jumpsuits at AAU tournaments and youth football games. No school comes close to their recruiting efforts other than DeMatha.

And Yes I know of two boys at Sidwell who came into Sidwell as freshman who were also considering gonzaga.

It could be possible for your son to be recruited by Gonzaga for football. Some of their football coaches or boosters must have some serious time on their hands - they have shown up 3 different times to watch my sons team to play in their RFL games.

Your kidding yourself if you don't think Sidwells Defensive end or QB would not start at Gonzaga in some type of capacity. Both are going to 1-AA programs to play ball.

I know for a fact there are kids on the Sidwell team who shunned offers from WCAC schools, including the beloved Gonzaga. You can tell yourself otherwise, but it is the truth.

Sidwell families don't pay any attention to Gonzaga families. Those of us in the same sports league are well aware of their feelings inadequacy and lack of sportsmanship. Congrats Sidwell on the game, great coverage in the Post today.
