No dont you dare put this on the shoulders of one woman. F you. There are a 1000 misjudgments and miscalculations and lies between her and this decision.

RBG couldnt retire under Obama because there wasnt even a vote for Garland. Mitch was never gonna let her be replaced by a dem president. Couldnt retire under Trump who got 3 justices in who are all partisan hacks after influencing one justice to retire. Two of them shouldnt have been considered at all.

No. You will not put this at HER feet.

False. Obama asked her to retire in 2013, before GOP took control of the Senate in 2014 elections for Jan 2015.

OH i didnt realize it was political and a president should ask someone to step down. no see this is the bullshit, even with this reasoning you cant lay this at her feet and hers alone. its like saying a pregnancy is alone a womans issue. roe v wade does not lie at the feet of rbg alone. if anything it lays at the feet of white women who voted for trump. f&&& them not her.

The fault clearly falls on the justices who vote to overturn Roe. Not RGB or McConnell.

while this is true, politics has always been a game of battleship. You position your ships to block.

Fair enough. Trump was blocked in 2020. And will be blocked again if GOP is fool enough to run him again.

Last election Susan Collins 417,645 votes. That’s all it takes! The tyranny of the minority

Filibuster and gerrymandering.

The gridlock is the goal - it delegitimizes government.

So why is congress able to pass anything at all if this is always the outcome?

Congress has been dysfunctional for a long time.

Filibuster. It’s keeping those type of people in their place for a long time. Maybe ask Joe Manchin?

US congress has passed a large number of laws despite having filibusters in place. What's so different about this one?

Do you know 60 senators willing to protect women?

Because Democratic votes are diluted by the constant cheating of the GOP, for one thing.

Have Democrats tried drafting and passing such a law, which has broad support among US citizens? Relying on flawed past judicial rulings to maintain such an important right is fragile, as we've just observed.

Two REPUBLICANS tried and failed.

They should push for it again. Use all of their political will.

I haven’t seen anyone say they are ok with the leak or that it will help in the midterms. How would it help? The final decision was going to come out before the midterms anyway. But the leak softens the blow by dragging it out and making the story about the leak instead of the opinion.

No, that's what some may be hoping but that's not what the leak will do.

This is huge. There are a lot of Republicans who were not aware this was coming. They are shocked. Just like independents and Democrats are.

Exactly zero Democrats are shocked. We’ve been telling you for years what the GOP was up to.
I'm an Independent and I'm shocked. DH is a Democrat and he is shocked, but I'll be sure to tell him that he's doing it wrong.

Do that. Then check in with your Democratic friends. Seriously, if you aren’t in a right wing news silo, none of this should come as a surprise. I think there’s a level denial among people who are evincing “shock.”

lol

Why is this thread 60 pages long if no one is shocked?

Anger.

This. Lots of people are angry, and we are even more angry that millions of voices don't carry as much weight as one conservative supreme court vote.

I wrote anger, but that doesn’t quite cover my feelings. Rage. Fury. Outrage. Flat out wrath.

+1

White, hot rage.

Don’t F with me or my daughter.

I mean, she's my hero but, yes. I blame her.

Get stuffed.

This is all on the GOP and FedSoc extremists. RBG is not responsible for conservative depravity.

+1

And this is depraved. So many women are going to end up bleeding out, leaving their children without a mother. So many families are going to have extra children they can’t afford. So many drug users will end up abusing the children they didn’t want. So many more addicts will be made. So many marriages will fail under the strain of children who need 100% medical care. There is no life in this decision. There is hatred and control and punishment.

this is what sickens me. as a woman that had a traumatic miscarriage at 8 weeks of a very wanted pregnancy that would have died if I had been scared to go to the hospital for fear of "self aborting" this is terrifying. Plus all those children that will be abused and killed by parents that resent them for being born.
also as a woman that just had a very wanted baby and "textbook" pregnancy, forced birth is repulsive. my body will never be the same (and I'm not talking physically). This is sick.
