Most federal workers are not based in DC.

1/3 of federal workers are veterans.

Many small businesses rely on a customer base of federal workers who are not spending their money right now during the shutdown.

But sure, go ahead and sneer at those affected by the shutdown.

You mean, not spending the taxpayers' money.

It's the taxpayers' money.

Not the federal beauracrats', and not the contractors.

Just like your salary is actually the money of customers who pay your company for its services.

Tax money is confiscated

How did Trump latch onto this wall idea like a limpet in the first place? Did they just figure that it was the easiest way to keep the base stoked during the campaign?

Outgoing White House chief of staff John Kelly said in an interview published Sunday that the Trump administration has moved on from the push for a concrete wall along the southern border.

"To be honest, it’s not a wall,” Kelly told The Los Angeles Times.

Pretty much. It's not doing a great job now which is why most people don't want billions poured into it. Stopping rich employers from hiring cheap economic illegals would make more of a difference at this point.

And if the Republicans (who still control Congress as of today, as well as the other branches of government) wanted this, it could have been done, you would think.

And more damage to our environment as the shutdown continues.

The shutdown is already causing major problems at national parks despite efforts by states and private groups to offset the loss of federal funding.

A pileup of trash and dirty toilets during the shutdown has drawn intense concern at Joshua Tree National Park in California. December is historically one of the park’s busiest months — last year, 284,398 people visited Joshua Tree in December. Visitors are still being allowed into the park, but there are no federally funded services being provided, including maintenance.

The wall is being morphed into the wall system right now.
Pretty soon the story will be the administration was never planning an actual 30 ft wall, because that would be ridiculous, but a system of technological and physical barriers.
Someone is probably diligently working on words to fit the acronym W.A.L.L.

Regardless of what Congrss passes, there will be decades of eminent domain cases involving any land that current owners aren't willing to sell, costing tax payers many more millions of dollars in legal expenses. No continuous wall will be built anytime soon.

What fig leaf are they going to provide the base with?

Yes, that's the question. I figure that the House will pass something with some more money for the "border barrier" (whatever that means), but not the full $5 billion. That will pass and go to the Senate where it will pass. Trump will either sign it or veto.

Pence was already saying two days ago that Trump would settle for 2.5 bn for his wall. But the Dems want the agreement that both the Senate and House were prepared to go forward with weeks ago. Trump played his hand and he is losing.

More Americans blame President Donald Trump than congressional Democrats for the partial U.S. government shutdown, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Thursday, as the closure stretched into its sixth day with no end in sight.

Forty-seven percent of adults hold Trump responsible, while 33 percent blame Democrats in Congress, according to the Dec. 21-25 poll, conducted mostly after the shutdown began. Seven percent of Americans blamed congressional Republicans.

Duh! What did Trump expect after braying that this was his shutdown?

Not sure who Shemer is but I guess Trump will get what he wants just like he got Mexico to pay for the wall. Ha ha.

+1 didn’t trump promise Mexico would pay for the wall? Why are hundreds of thousands of Americans foregoing their paychecks for time worked because Trumo couldn’t seal the deal?
