FCPS should be loading sites bordering other jurisdictions until they hit about 90% of no modular program capacity. Herndon, Skyview, Westfield, Centreville [could get over cap from Robinson and Fairfax]. Robinson gets some Lake Braddock [which gets some West Springfield].

Oakton is a filler site- near Madison, surrounded by other sites with more obvious high school choices.

Squawks, complaining gerrymandering: Meren has Flint Hill Island and Westbriar Island. Colvin Run is 2 dev that should be at Forest Edge, Langley Herndon and Reston that could be at Herndon pyramid schools. All survived Thru/Brac. Now Westfield [borders Loudoun County, Prince William County, Dulles Airport] is NOT slated to get 100% of Cub Run and Bull Run?

I really don’t think it’s because of anything nefarious. They are just so afraid of making people mad when they get pushback. When they tried to move the island to Oak Hill last year, people fought that. Then they tried to move the island to Crossfield with the new Skyview maps, and other people freaked out because of the various ES changes being proposed along with it. So then they scrapped ES changes entirely. I think most people in the Navy island would have accepted a change to Crossfield, or at least not pushed back as much, because the streets around the island go to Crossfield. I think they overreacted getting rid of all ES changes related to Skyview. Nothing they are doing is measured and well thought out… just reacting to who is complaining.

Skyview is going to be a neighborhood school with about 20-25% FARMS. The majority of kids will be aiming for classes needed to attend college, which aligns with the Advanced diploma. I am not sure why this is a point of contention for some people.

It will potentially attract kids who are interested in STEM because of the pathways, just like Edison and Chantilly do. Those offerings did not make either of those schools a mini TJ, the pathways won’t make Skyview a mini TJ. It will develop its own reputation, which will probably be acadecally similar to Chantilly.

This is similar to most of the schools in FCPS. I mean, if your school of desire is Langley or Madison, then no it's not the equivalent, but every other school is the same.

If every other school is the same why are all the wealthy neighborhoods pulling strings and paying bribes to stay out of Westfield?

I recommend you start your own thread about Westfield instead of continuing to rant about the same thing over and over again in this thread about Skyview.

Westfield is very much a part of this thread. The thread is discussing the boundaries for Skyview, which is pulling 900 kids from Westfield and the scenarios are not backfilling those kids. Westfield is dropping from full to 74% full. Families at Westfield 100% are getting screwed.

I don’t think families are avoiding Westfield because it is a not desirable school but because they don’t want to move. I don’t know much about Westfield or Centreville, their numbers are very much middle of the pack maybe a bit higher. They are good schools and the people we know at both are very happy there.

I don’t think Centreville should be expanded. There is space at Westfield that some of those kids should be moved to. if they choose not to move then they can deal with an over crowded school. There is space near by, either accept moving to the school with seats or deal with being crowded. The County should not be spending money on expansion.

Herndon High School is not relevant to this conversation, but you knew that already. Houses in Floris zoned to Westfield cost just as much as the houses in 20171 zoned to Oakton and Chantilly.

That is not true.

Also, school ratings do not matter to parents whose children are already enrolled in schools in their own zones. They do matter to those who are newly starting or to those who are moving from outside to the area.
