The ignored rape kits and forcing girls and women to give birth to the products of rape are two sides of the same coin, misogyny. Both things let women know that they, their safety and their bodily autonomy don’t matter.

You also need to believe victims so you don’t let serial rapists continue committing crime. But since we don’t have a police force that does that, we’re still going to have rape victims. So what are you going to do about those victims who inevitably become pregnant?

They could start by processing the massive backlog of rape kits. They could start by investigating reported rapes instead of interrogating the victim like she’s the culprit. They could start by getting rid of the rapists in their own ranks.
