Both of these descriptions are on the extreme edges. Protest in itself is not illegal or necessarily "terrorism". However, most peaceful protests, at least here in DC, require a permit and a plan so that there are enough portable toilets, etc. and so that the crowd does not block streets. That makes sense. This "convoy" type of protest was not "peaceful". By all accounts the truckers in Ottawa were blasting their horns and blasting music and blocking streets. Not "peaceful". Blocking an important transportation link is not "peaceful". Those are considered acts of war between countries for many people and a judge was right to ask police to remove the truckers. They have a right to protest, but not to block others from going about their business.

Yes, it was terrorism. They were trying to shut down the Canadian capital in exchange for the resignation of Trudeau, and the installation of their preferred government.

The Facebook groups starting the convoy were created and spread by both domestic and foreign actors who are continuing their war on democracy. "Protests" like this and January 6 are being amplified by people who want to show that democracy is failing.

The true believer truckers are just pawns.

Whatever anyone thinks about the merits of the Canadian truckers’ movement, it’s clear that the Right is capitalizing on it by using it as fuel to stoke the grievance machine and for fundraising material ahead of the midterms. It’s not like most of you GAF about Canada the rest of the time.

Interestingly CTV news live feed went black for a few seconds when tear gas was deployed.
But, it is very easy to see it on a live feed from some youtuber.

I totally agree. But even if you only call them protesters, protesters get arrested all the time. If you’re going to put yourself out there, part of it is accepting the consequences. Jonathan Turley, The latest normal person to have lost his mind in service of the idiot right wing this week, actually said “By this rationale, they could have cracked down on the Civil Rights movement. They could have arrested Martin Luther King." Well yeah, Martin Luther King was arrested. A LOT. He even wrote a letter from a jail that Turley should probably read. Protesters are arrested. BLM protesters were arrested. Multiple members of Congress have been arrested for protesting voting bills in the past couple years. It doesn’t make the governments arresting them fascist or the leaders of those governments tyrants.


The Montgomery bus boycotts were an economic weapon just as the truck convoy is. And the protestors in Montgomery probably were called traitors and terrorists too. Back then the cops used German Shepards whereas today it is horses in Ottawa. Sadly.


The buses did not stop running in Montgomery. They were available for people to use.

The videos posted here are so mild. Do you think those police should just sit there and say "pretty please" when people are failing to obey the law? Honestly, I would prefer to have Canadian police here. I saw no tasers being pulled.
