I’ve spoken to college coaches at all levels (I’m a HS coach). The main thing the (elite conference) DI coaches are looking for is speed & acceleration from prospective outfield players. It’s literally their first look then technical ability.

Which is the opposite to what folks seem to think on these boards! If your kid isn’t on an ECNL or GA team because of logistics e.g. distance from a club they’ll still get recruited. Conversely, if they are on a GA or ECNL team and they aren’t very good or are just decent but their team is outstanding they’ll still not get recruited for DI. College coaches (DI) don’t recruit teams they recruit athletes that can ‘fit’ into the style of play.

Very few, most will move to ECNL before junior year

While some certainly do the numbers are not even the same. Finding the right EDP team that is focusing on college exposure is the hard part. And what you would have spent on ECNL travel and showcases will easily be exceeded by College ID camps that the EDP player must attend and still be placed on the non-ECNL field.

VDA almost lost to Metro 09 last weekend. There is no way they are the top 08 team in the area.

This is the 2008 thread. I think you posted in the wrong spot. I can totally believe this about the 2009 VDA team though however, as we all know, any scrimmages/friendlies should be taken with a grain of salt as they are not coached the same way.

Metro 09 played VDA 08.

Why would VDA 08s do that? Metro 09s aren't even in the same realm. They just lost to a horrible Cedar Stars team two weeks ago among others this fall. That would be like losing to SYC 09s or Loudoun RL Red 09s. Hopefully a VDA parent can chime in. This is a huge stone to throw.

It was a futsal game in a tournament. The score was 10-3.
