How will this work for families where parents have paid employment?

1. the kids will stay home alone
2. the kids will go to work with their parents
3. a parent (probably the mother) will quit their job

It doesn't work but that doesn't seem like a consideration for those making decisions.

If this is true, we have bigger problems because there are frequent phone conferences for all of the elected officials and the various plans and limitations are being debated. Why aren’t your elected officials calling in? Are they too busy finalizing their Covidpalooza photo ops?

Mine know. Most don’t care. They see this as parents asking the government to ignore its own guidelines for parent convenience. They don’t understand why children would have to wear masks in a store for 15 min, but not in a school full day.

They think that school is for parent convenience? Wow. Some neighbors/co-workers/friends you have.

For example, even if we have a vaccine by Jan 2021 it will take time for all the children to get vaccinated, and all the adults. And they won’t be the priority, it will be the high risk populations who will get the vaccine first.

The risk doesn’t decrease without a significant event (like a vaccine) for covid. The funding situation for schools will also get worse due to lost taxes.

We are bracing for 1-2 more years of distance learning at MCPS.

NoVa already announced that Phase 3 means all students are allowed in the school building with protection guidelines (details TBD) They are expected to enter Phase 3 in a couple of weeks assuming the current trend continues. We still have 10 weeks until school starts. If the current trend continues, we'll be even better shape then. If MoCo still does DL, I will riot against the decision maker.

Me too.

And hopefully once it gets closer to school starting/after the first couple weeks of school they will realize how ridiculous it is and return to full time in person school. And "your friend" has no idea what the plans are because nothing has actually been decided.

No, my friend does know as she is on one of the planning committees as an academic expert/consultant. We also discussed how upset parents are NoVa and the upcoming board meeting.

Seriously. We are totally on track to be in a fairly good position in the next few weeks not to mention how much time we have before school. There will be no reason to keep kids out if the trend continues.

Instead go ahead and brace yourself for the entire education system collapsing. Because that is what's going to happen if DL goes on for another 1-2 years.

Nope, not a typo. And that is if we are lucky.

I would like to wait 2-3 months before taking it. The rush concerns me. I’m not normally worried about vaccines. We get the flu shot annually. I’ll get the shingles vaccine as soon as my insurance will pay.
