Since you're saying you're close to the referenced individuals on this thread, I take it that means the driver and/or the party host parents. You don't need to say if you think anyone who breaks the law should have any consequences. But perhaps if there were small consequences for small offenses, there wouldn't be these two dead boys today.

This is what should be so sad. Why didn't anyone curb the criminal activity sooner than now?

I am just so sad for all those involved. I don't know why I clicked on the link to the recent story. It just made me feel worse. Mostly for the families of the deceased boys, but their friends, the driver, the passenger that survived, even the hosting parent that should have done some things differently. Very very sad.

These are educated parents. Can someone please explain what they might have been thinking? Were *they* too drunk to behave like parents?

On that note, even though all parents probably say, "Call me if you need a ride home," perhaps the kids know their parents are also drinking, so what's the use?

Washington Post said they got a copy of the police report and that the parent knew drinking was happening at the house, saw the beer coming in the door.

In spite of the fact that so many kids now have divorced/separated parents, it's still typically an added hardship for kids to have to deal with that kind of family mess. You can research the stats if you like.

Don't know if the Saltzman girl had divorced parents or not. But I just can't imagine a responsible mother allowing that kind of party, seeing the drinking, then waving good night to the kids as they drove off in their cars.

OMG. The hosting party parent is Kenneth J. Saltzman of North Potomac, MD. a very influential big time lawyer. The arrogant one of this thread? Only admin can verify, as he's been successful in having certain posts removed.

Saltzman and drinking driver, Ellis, will be charged in October.

I am sick to my stomach with the revelation of who "chaperoned" this deadly party. Was there no mother at home? Divorced?

This is devastating.

There are many posters who know that parent providers of alcohol need jail time consequences, if they are to reconsider their reckless (literally!) behavior.

This is what I know. Lots of diligent parents will call the parents of a kid hosting a party to verify there'll be no alcohol drinking and parents will be home.

Here's what they need to do. Call the home the evening of the party after it's started. Ask to speak to the parent, to thank them for inviting your kid, and you'll be late, but you're on the way.

Here's the shocker now...
No parent is at home. These "cool" parents will lie right to your face about being home during the party.

They will stock the bar and leave for the night, or better yet... the weekend.

Just try it, and see for yourselves how it works.

To the pp who continuously posts about the "parent host providing alcohol and venue and allowing teens to drive home," you could be wrong on every "fact" and you could be right -- we haven't seen a conclusive report (and even then it would be up to a judge or jury to find criminal liability) -- but one point you're 100% blind to: If you think that the majority of teen alcohol is provided by parents, you are clueless.

or another kid the same age who has a connection to an older kid to buy it. Same works with weed. It isn't some scary drug dealer, it is some kid that they probably knew from elementary school who has a connection.

The police reported the facts, and you know it. The adult was the parent at the party crime site, his home.

I thought the police said the adult was present when they arrived but the could not verify if he was present during the party. Also, the police didn't say anything about who supplied the alcohol.

Just saying, it is not typical for a parent to supply, the usual source is kids a few years older or fake IDs.
