Conservatives have been complaining about protests since at least the 1800s. It’s almost a reflexive cultural thing for them to be offended by public protests, even though the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of speech is enshrined in the first amendment.

I guess they don’t see any personal benefits to them from historic protests conducted by workers, women, minorities and others seeking civil and workers rights. They think that they just got those rights organically.

No one was throwing rocks at the LAPD until they showed up with horses and started beating on people.

The crowd could have just dispersed. They don’t get to throw rocks just because they are mad. Interfering with law enforcement is not constitutionally protected “peaceful protest.”
