I don’t trust her to stand up to MAGAs/Youngkin or the bullies/misogynists. She has already demonstrated she’s ok with them. Very ok with them, in fact.
Have you ever watched a school board meeting? Standing up to MAGAs is very low on list of things we need from a school board member. It just doesn't come up very often.
Exactly. As an APS parent, one of my biggest concerns right now is retaining teachers, bus drivers, and extended-day staff. The staffing situation is extremely precarious right now!
And how do you think we got here? Take a look at how APE has treated teachers and staff during the entire pandemic.
As expendable.

but when it does it's probably one of the most important things a board member can do.

Anonymous wrote:I wish this thread would die now that the caucus is over, but seriously, I think MT is going to be an awesome school board member and will win over the skeptics. I also think MK is great, and the combo of them together will be a great thing for APS. Wait and see.

I am new to Arlington and was told I could vote in primaries but didn't realize I couldn't in this one. Now I know.
Yeah, you have to hold your nose and do it as an Independent. The way I see it is, for the purposes of the Arlington School Board race (and almost all Arlington races), everyone in Arlington is a Democrat. The alternate is to have no vote that matters at all. So that's how I sign the pledge. (Also, it's not enforceable in any way.)
It is tough for people whose jobs prevent them from signing this kind of a pledge. My spouse is a journalist and couldn't vote because she can't sign this kind of a pledge.
Your spouse is honest. Sadly many are not. I wonder how many Rs voted for Miranda in the caucus.

If 1/5th the time of everyone on this forum was put toward that end, maybe we could make some improvements.
Are Miranda's hateful supporters going to stop their attacks on parents, teachers, angelo supporters, school board members?
Not based on DCUM threads.
What attacks are these, specifically?
On this very thread, we’ve had APE attacks against the SB and parents. See other threads for attacks on teachers and Duran.
In fact, I bet the attacks ramp back up now that MT has the nomination. She’ll release the bulldogs again.
Could you point me to the attacks? Copy/paste and page numbers?
of course they can't- it didn't happen. These PP think its 'attacking' that APE pushed for kids to be back in school pre-vaccine. That is really what they are calling 'hateful' and 'spiteful' and 'attacking teachers.' They viewed that as an 'attack.' They don't have the self awareness or ability to realize that THEY WERE WRONG. Kids absolutely should have been back in school full time in the fall of 2020. All of the post covid studies bear this out- it would have made little to know difference on infection rates and it would have prevented the absolutely massive long lasting learning loss we are confronting now. But rather then wrestle with that reality- and move forward trying to find a way to remediate the learning loss- they are focused on claiming that APE was 'hateful.'
