They did. They have maybe the best goalie in the state and he will keep them in a lot of games, but they seem less talented across the board. There should be six contenders this season.

1. Madison - Still top dog until someone unseats them. Not winning every faceoff will hurt them a lot. Need both Rubleys to be healthy. They will be good but not dominant.

2. Robinson - Graduated some really solid players. Have a good young FOGO and always athletic and well coached. Lake Braddock lost everyone and Robinson should coast to Region C title.

3. Langley - Take VEL for what its worth, but Langley beat all the publics and looked pretty decent. Not a ton of depth but they return most of the core from last year.

4. Battlefield - Great goalie and one very strong midfielder, but not a much depth or offensive firepower. Patriot is down this year so Battlefield has a pretty clear path unless Freedom takes a step up.

5. Yorktown - Lost a lot of talent, but return one of the best attack in the state. Like Madison and Robinson, well coached and always competitive. Liberty district will be tough this year and Region D is by far the most competitive.

6. McLean - Took a huge step forward last season and they return a lot of talent, including two very solid poles and a good goalie.

Top of the Liberty district going to have some great games between those three schools. Should be all three and Madison in the regional semi final games.

I would also group Battlefield as a contender as they will have the easiest road and anything can happen in one game.

Sorry it did not work out for your DS. However all of the top DMV teams are loaded with D1 talent.

Actually worked out great for DS to attend a high academic top 20 college. Like I said the statement “loaded with D1 talent” is subject to debate bc plenty of D1 level talent opt to play for D3 for a whole host of reasons. Many kids, including DS got offers from top 40 D1 schools but turn them down bc they want to experience college life more holistically for example, study abroad for a semester.

Outside of top 25 programs, many kids, especially those with decent academic aspirations, would pick a good D3 liberal arts school over D1 programs. DS turned down a few D1 programs to commit at a good liberal arts program. D1 is not the only measurement of lacrosse successes. Statements like xyz program is loaded with D1 commitments are somewhat narrow minded, just saying

Ollie Hau LSM was VA Player of the Year for VA.
Both Rubleys should be healthy.
Madison lost some great seniors.

You hit the nail on the head about Riverside. Riverside has had teams loaded with D1 players. I am not sure how they will be in the next few years.

I think they only graduated 1 D1 player from last years team... and they beat everyone in northern va that they played... so, what team overtakes them? Oh and I dont think their JV team lost to anyone in NOVA either...
