I’m laughing at this right now. Maybe SOME DOJ officials were blindsided. Highly doubt the actual prosecutors on this were. NYT sources are highly suspect.
They are blindsided because they are not actually doing anything. Now they have to scramble because the committee gave proof of witness intimidation. Something DOJ is always saying is a big thing they will prosecute. Basically the committee is shaming DOJ in to doing something. DOJ is a joke. Do not look for DOJ to do anything.
Yes, if the DOJ is too stupid to interview the Chief of Staff’s principal assistant who was in the middle of it all taking notes and answering and routing phone calls to and from her boss and GOP Members of Congress, what kind of investigation are they doing?

Well, as none of us is privy to what the Committee is sharing with DOJ, if anything, it is all conjecture on our part. I would imagine that DOJ is doing its job and biding it's time.
Prosecuting a former president has never been done before and it behooves DOJ and the rest of us to get it right the first time because we only get one time.
The Committee will make recommendations at end of hearings to their conclusions. This Committee only has until end of 2022 whereas DOJ has until Jan. 20, 2024. So, there is time. Be patient. I doubt Garland has a sweet spot for Republicans.

But that video DOES NOT SHOW anything that can be used in a court of law. You will note that the Jan 6th committee DID NOT claim Trump was doing anything untoward in that video. They relied instead on the indirect account of Cassidy Hutchinson. There is a reason for that - if the video had shown anything obvious, they would have used it.

I posted it to refute the constant stream of bullshit that his seat is so far back that his arms would have to be 8 feet long to grab Engel. +1 Absolute fidelity to the truth and being extremely cautious about second hand information that is probably true but can't be 100% proven is so critical to political success. I was a hard core Trump supporter until he lied about his inauguration numbers. Please, it really hurts conservatives when Trump and his supporters make stuff up or even when they shade the truth a bit.
