I’m in some FB groups for diamond painting (a craft where you stick small plastic pieces to a canvas to make a picture) and a lot of people buy their kits directly from China on Temu. They’ve started putting on a tariff charge and the prices have almost doubled. A lot of retirees in this hobby on fixed incomes, looking for the least expensive kits possible. And a lot of “why can’t we make this in America and avoid the tariffs!” Well, Susan, it would take years and years to get a cheap plastic factory that makes tiny little plastic pieces up and running in the US. If we really thought manufacturing tiny plastic thingies was a good use of the US’s time and resources, we could gradually ramp it up over time. But we aren’t going to be doing that type of manufacturing in the US, EVER, tariffs or no. So enjoy your $40 kit that was $25 last year.
