This is absolutely true and that's why Alexandria's MLS Next team also plays CCL so that the kids that didn't get much or any playing time in the MLS Next match, they can get time in the CCL match. I wouldn't be surprised if some kids on the MLS Next roster get barely any time in those games.
Just so everybody understands what this means:
Substitutions are allowed at any stoppage. Games shall follow the Technical Framework provided for
at the beginning of each MLS NEXT Season. The maximum limits for substitutions are:
For U-14, U-15, U-16, U-17, and U-19 MLS NEXT Games there will be unlimited substitutions over
three (3) moments in the game, plus half time with no re-entry after exiting the match.
For U-13 MLS NEXT Games, there will be unlimited substitutions over three (3) moments per half,
plus half time, with no re-entry per half.
Head Injury Substitution: All substitutions relating to head injury, including whether to charge such
substitution, shall be handled in compliance with the PDev Concussion Protocol.
The U13 approach is not inconsistent with what a lot of top teams already do at U12. And a number of key players don't leave the games at all. So I don't see this as a big deal. And if the rosters are 16-18 people, there's no issue at all.
