Get over yourself Puritan PP! Yes, most children start thinking about sexuality in their preteens - that is perfectly healthy and developmentally appropriate. The average age of first intercourse has been rising in recent years, but half of American teens have had first intercourse prior to age 18. Beyond intercourse, many more American teens are engaging in oral sex in their earlier teens because they believe it’s a safer option and ‘isn’t really sex’. This is one very good reason to get your kids the HPV vaccine as soon as they’re eligible (age 11/12, I believe?).


The terms Youth and Sexual Beings are polar opposites.

My friend has a pediatrician he and his wife loved. Has cared for all 3 of their children who are not 15, 13, and 11. The pediatrician was just arrested for assaulting a child as young as 2. They're devastated.

Wow. I didn’t think that happened anymore. Always now with a female PA or nurse in the room. It’s for both the patient’s protection and the doc’s protection against false accusations and lawsuits. In fact in many practices even female docs will have a nurse in the room for physicals and gyn exams now, to protect against accusations and lawsuits.


Of course it still happens. Some doctors follow the practice, some don't. You should not send a child, even a teen who may not speak up alone with a stranger while they get examined.

And, not all of us have doctor choice. We are with a large health care system and often you cannot get an appointment with your assigned doctor and even if you do you often don't get to see them. I usually have why husband come when I am concerned. I've had issues with fake breast exams.

Jesus, lady. You need some boundaries and your kids deserve privacy. I have teen and older boys. They ran around the house with no or minimal clothing for years, too. Doesn't mean that I didn't leave the exam room for their privacy during a doctor's visit when they were teens.


Or to turn it around, I spent years chasing diapers on my DD, bathing her until she was able to do it herself, etc. I am a father.
I have no need to be in the room when DD is examined. And she is very open with me, but because I respect her privacy,

Why can't he talk to the doctor and take ownership of his health with an adult there? A good doctor will talk to them and not you except to fill in where help is needed.

I always leave! I go in with my child, talk bout anything relevant updates, and then I said "I will be in the waiting room. Let me know if you need me!". I want my 14 year old to ask questions, be honest and take ownership of his health!
