Why should the coach give your kid more playing time if you're the Team Manager? That is the exact reason parents shouldn't be involved in the team started at U13...

PP I get it. I did this for baseball because they asked me personally and it was my oldest kid and I didn't know any better. It was not that bad, but grew to be a lot of time, and over time during the year, I grew to resent it all-- especially certain things about what the coach did and when certain parents didn't help at all but would complain. This was in a heavily parent-centered environment at the time, however, and not paid coaching, which is different.

Then I stopped doing it the following year and I was much happier.

But kiss-a parents come in many forms and a lot of team managers are not the same way. We are just idiots who agreed to help out sometimes.

It's a crappy, thankless, and, at times, time-consuming job and takes a special/decent person to volunteer to do it with no expectation of remuneration, which is why you usually end up with a wackjob or someone who does it to advantage their kid.

That said, the parent who volunteers to be their summer swim team rep deserves every advantage/consideration they can get.

Not at my Club!

I am a TM and my kid used to be a starter for a few years. Puberty hasn't hit compared to other teammates and now my kid sits on the bench as a Sub. Talented but not aggressive enough.

IT SUCKS because of all the darn work I manage and all the extra duties (we participate in two leagues) you would think Coach would give my kid 10 extra minutes of play time per game but nothing.

Coach is great, but Coaches to win. Parents and kids are great, that's why we stick around...but really, can you just give my kiddo 10 extra minutes of play time???

I do the job absolutely no one wants and I get absolutely nothing for it!

The kid sucks has been with the club since Under 9 and cant sniff the A team. Always complains he is hurt and playing thru injury to hide his lack of skills. Myself and the other mothers just shake our heads and laugh. All of the other TMs just roll their eyes anytime her name is ever brought up. We have been witness to this show since Under 9 We have been with the A team since under 11 and have watched the same antics every year. Thank god our A team TM is total opposite and normal.

Wow, you sound like a real champ.

I would stay away from you. The team manager seems like she's actually doing work.

I know exactly who is being referred to here. The OP is spot on with this description of the manager and her family. She will walk out on the field like she is a coach for the entire practice sometimes. Im not sure how she is as a team manager but as a parent she has got to be the worst mother goose ever.

Seen those families plenty of times. They volunteer their way in, too bad the coaches want to win so you kid better be good.
