This isn't a formal public engagement. It's a private family funeral. And he's "more important" than the rando grandkids.
Also he has done a few "formal" engagements (even if these are relatively informal, they still count).
William's first official public engagement was at the age of 8 with his mother and father and a happy crowd. It would look bad for George's to be a funeral.
In addition to Covid protocols and UK children not being vaccinated at all.
How would it "look bad" to show respect for Prince Philip?

Not everyone lives in America you know. That PP wasn't me but I actually live in Edinburgh. He fought for our country, he started the Duke of Edinburgh awards that all of our children participate in, he's been a public servant for his whole life.

Its already announced that it will be live broadcast around the world. Just like Diana's funeral and the recent weddings. Its a formal public engagement.
