My kids have had a break for 11 months with no schooling from Mid March -September, and the bare minimum this year. There is absolutely no reason why they can’t do virtual learning.
A) That hasn't been my experience at all. School is tough for my kids, both emotionally and intellectually. B) You don't know that there is absolutely no reason why they can't do virtual learning without an explanation from the district. It could be legit, it could not.
The district gave a reason. They said they updated the status due to the weather forecast and OPM closure and full closure of other districts and they noted they are concerned with power outages.
That's good. Where did they say this? And how did the weather forecast change?
Omg . You NEED to get a life or learn how to look stuff up for yourself.

It is extremely tone-deaf for working families where the parents do not get a day off.
(Not to mention the day off this Monday for President's day, or the day and a half off kids have next week due to conferences). I can't exactly tell my employer I need the day off today. (And I can't find a kids camp, or group playdate as I would do in normal circumstances). Instead, yet another day of too much junk-food screen time for my kids, which is the last thing they need at this point in the pandemic.
Amen. Once again, everyone else's interests come at the expense of working women, who are expected to smile while eating shit with a spoon because that's what good women do.
YUP - teachers complained they didn't have childcare today so APS closed.. So many working mothers/families have been battling this for almost a year. The bias is unbelievable and I don't understand how APS gets away with this. Curious of what's happening with that lawsuit - anyone have any insight?
Most teachers I know are working moms.
Interesting are they most ES teachers? DD 10 has 2 teachers both unmarried. DD 12 has 7 teachers and only one is a working mom. Others are empty nesters, men (both married with kids) or single women. Interesting to think about.

Lmao you mean this lawsuit?
https://www.gofundme.com/f/virginia-school-lawsuit-round-2
Has he even filed the first one and he's begging for more money? He's only 1% into his second round lmao. Someone is stealing money here. What a joke.

Agreed, although I admit to being disturbed by (and frankly concerned for) those who seem ready to fire Duran because he happened to call a snow day.
This is not about snow day. This is aboit total and compete failure to teach the younger grades.
Yup. APS has completely given up on teaching the younger grades. Did you see the Glebe plan to offer only 40 minutes or 40+30 minutes of in person instruction on hybrid days, with the rest via iPad? For third graders. It's insane.
Anonymous wrote:When a snow day is called, someone is always pissed off. Teachers on AEM complain about lots of things. You’re stupid if you think APS takes all of it seriously.
