I think the pandemic has done more to prove DeVos’ point than she could herself. We should privatize education and give those tax dollars to every family to find a school of their choice.

She’s being savaged because apparently she’s chose virtual for herself and will be doing DL all year.

Unless the school has the need for her to do all virtual or she has an ADA - I think all teachers have to go in.

NP. I don’t know the specifics, but I’ve also heard she’s someone who will not be returning in person.

I too am test to be back F2F with students.

How are they splitting those 6? I have 17 returning and they are split alphabetically. It ends up being 9 and 8 which easily fit in the classroom while spaced.

Pp with 6 returning:
4 are kids of staff members, so they will be there all 4 days, the other 2 will come 2 of the days, I don’t remember which day, but basically I’ll have 4 in person 2 days a week and 6 in person the other two days. I do think the 2 non staff kids that chose in person should be allowed to come all 4 days (since I have the room, but apparently they can’t do that bc other parents may get upset (what my principal said to me.)

To the pp who said teachers are complaining about the kids who chose in person....so not true. I wish more of my kids chose in person, it’s going to be difficult having 21 online and 6 in front of me.
Most of my students said that in person wasn’t worth the risk to have to wear a mask all day, sit far apart, limited recess (playground closed )
Most of my kids prefer virtual, but I teach aap, so obviously they’re capable. I know that’s a different story with primary grades.

Circumstances change. No one expected a vaccine to be ready so soon. No one expected virtual learning to be SO bad. People are allowed to have opinions and those opinions change if they are based on facts, and facts change.

189 commenst to her article, almost all seem to be disagreeing with her.

A lot of teachers are frustrated that only a few kids have chosen to come back. Apparently every teacher who posts on this page has 25 thrilled and happy virtual learners and 3 horrible children who insist on learning in person. Despite 60% of FCPS kids choosing in person...

General agreement that just because you have the vaccine it still doesn't mean you are 100% safe or that you won't bring the virus home and infect the 8 octogenarians you live with and that the only reason kids haven't died in droves in FCPS is because schools have been closed.

Also a LOT of posts about how frustrating the long lines are at Inova for vaccines this weekend.
