Same boat.
DC already professor/program/class "name dropped" (i.e., DC really looked at websites and published research and talked about overlapping interests) in the original supplemental essays. DC also gave other why Michigan reasons.
What else could they possibly be looking for? Especially with so many other deferred students, what could DC write that could stand out?
I don't blame DC for being flummoxed.

My DC did it. I have posted about it before. Yes it makes a big school smaller but there are other ways to do that too. DC enjoyed the honors program the first year because of the honors only seminars and discussion groups. It was less important the second year. The preferred freshman housing was a big plus.

Anonymous wrote:My kid was deferred from Michigan, accepted to Wisconsin (computer Science). I'm sure many are in the same boat. He is thinking of writing to Michigan to say he has continued interest.
Should he say something like "I was accepted to Wisconsin, but I would really prefer Michigan because I believe I will get a better education at Michigan" or would that be a bit too direct?
OK to say that, but don't name Wisconsin, just say "although I've been accepted elsewhere . . . "?

Anonymous wrote:Back in my day, Michigan was way easier to get into. I sent in my application and got my acceptance packet a week or two later. I turned down Ivy (not HYP) to attend Michigan but it was pretty clear on my arrival that the majority of the student body was not Ivy material. However, the majority of the Honors Program probably was.
I was a little worried that my kids wouldn't make the cut. Many of my Michigan friends' kids have ended up at colleges like Minnesota or Wisconsin or Indiana because Michigan has become such a tough nut to crack. But my kids all decided not to apply to Michigan. They all thought it was just too big. Not even the Residential College seemed small enough for them. Since they all have closets full of maize and blue clothing and even learned to fall asleep in their cribs to the soothing sound of "Hail to the Victors," this was disappointing.
Now I'm a SLAC parent. That has its benefits. I loved Michigan but it really is very big.

I saw a couple of posts on CC where aid was mentioned. The website says financial aid announcements will go out before April.
