My freshman had to agree to strict COVID rules to attend college on campus. He had other choices: attend remotely or gap year. The rules are there to keep the entire community safe and because the school’s top priority was to have kids attend classes in person if they wanted.

Many schools never made it to in person classes— the were off campus remote on on campus remote in dorm rooms. My kid knew the rules when he went, managed to have a great semester anyway, and wasn’t stuck in my basement learning.

If my kid had a minor rule violation, he would have gotten a warning. If he had a major one, he would have been sent home. And some students were, in fact, asked to leave. Not northeastern, BTW. They had under .2% positivity, and nearly all cases were amount faculty, staff and contractors.

They must have come into contact with someone right? Or else how did the school know OP's kid was on the loose?

Were they monitoring by cell phone or something?

OP is being too vague about both “minor” and “harsh”. It’s hard to take this seriously.
