Clearly being born here has not improved your ability to understand the Mayor's responsibilities. It has nothing to do with political correctness, but rather law.
Oh, dis'. There are many analyses that voice that the under-preparation for 1/6 was a nervous overreaction to the optics of the summer call up of the Guard by the President. If you disagree that is fine, but please do not resort to insulting my ability to 'understand'. We simply disagree. That happens sometimes.

Adding on here (NOT sock puppeting). she does, she does. she does. Please get informed.
She has new authority since Jan 6, but before that date she could only make a request to the Army.
What do you mean "only"? She could make a request, and her request was approved. That's authority. What do you need to feel like she has authority, chomping on a cigar and sticking pins in a map??
Having to ask permission from someone means you do not have authority. Words have meaning.
It is a formality!
And why did she not ask for more? If she was turned down, she could be doing an "I'm so vindicated" lap. But they wouldn't turn her down, because it's a FORMALITY that has now been waived. (Not a sock pupper; adding on!)
She requested what she needed. It is not her role to second guess the Federal police forces. I don't know why you refuse to accept this fact.
The mob could easily have run in a different direction. She should have had foresight (that's what we pay her and her staff for--planning) and planned for any event. But she was being PC. And when the Guard were needed, guess what? Not there.
We don't pay her to protect the Capitol building, sorry. And we don't call out the full national guard for every 1A event in DC. Again, it's obvious you don't live here and you are trying to deflect from the egregious mistakes that WERE made that day.
Wow. So PC. And I was born here, Were you?
And adding on (NOT sock puppeting) , there is possible nothing more annoying that the above. Do you really think people who don't have an interest in the DMV are posting on "Metro DC Local Politics"? Do you want to give me the Mambo/Mumbo sauce authenticity test? And who do you think YOU are? So annoying.

According to what I heard on WTOP on Jan. 6th, she had put in a request for the National Guard to be called out and the Pentagon said no. Hours later, Pence approved the request.
My understanding is that while DC officials were on the call, the official request came from Capitol authorities.

Anonymous wrote:jsteele wrote:Anonymous wrote:jsteele wrote:Anonymous wrote:DP: Maybe after what she let happen during the BLM protests and riots she would be more sensitive to more rioting?
As has been pointed out many times in this thread, there was no rioting in the parts of the city under Bowser's control. Bowser apparently decided that MPD rather than federal services could best handle things. Given that it was MPD that had to bail out the Capitol Police, she appears to have been correct.
Well, they "had to bail out the Capitol Police" b/cause no NG were available. And Bowser may be part of that decision making is PPs point I believe.
Just to be clear, whether the PP thought that or not, it is not true. Bowser has no responsibility for nor authority over federal properties.
She does over having National Guard readied and prepped though, like they were yesterday.
